What is an accumulator bet?
The accumulator bet involves multiple selections on a bet, in most cases four or more selections, and requires all selections to win.
The stakes and returns from the first selection are carried forward to the next, until the last selection on the bet is made.
Due to the fact that the return (and stake returned) from the first leg becomes the stake for the second leg, and so on, the potential return is much greater.
Types of an ACCA bet
In sports betting, an accumulator is a wager that consists of four or more selections.
Two or three selections are referred to as a double or treble bet.
Most online bookmakers allow you to place an accumulator with up to 20 selections.
Accumulator bet example
The following example shows how you can make a five-fold accumulator using the results of five football matches.
After showing you the odds for each bet, we will explain how bookies calculate the odds for accumulators.
SELECTION | RESULT | ODDS | BET OUTCOME |
Germany to win | Germany 2 Netherlands 1 | 2.00 | WON |
Slovakia to win | Slovakia 2 Luxembourg 0 | 1.85 | WON |
Bulgaria to win | Bulgaria 3 Liechtenstein 1 | 2.30 | WON |
Denmark to win | Denmark 3 Switzerland 2 | 1.90 | WON |
Slovenia to win | Slovenia 4 Montenegro 2 | 2.10 | WON |
In order to calculate the returns from an accumulator, the odds from each single are multiplied together.
Using an accumulator bet, these would be the odds if you had wagered €1 on the five games above.
So if you bet €1 on this 33.954 accumulator, your total profit would be €33.954.
You can see that an accumulator has drastically increased odds compared to betting on each individual selection at its own odds.
However, in the event one of those selections failed to win, the whole accumulator would lose. Here is an example of an accumulator bet that lost.
SELECTION | RESULT | ODDS | BET OUTCOME |
Germany to win | Germany 2 Netherlands 1 | 2.00 | WON |
Slovakia to win | Slovakia 2 Luxembourg 0 | 1.85 | WON |
Bulgaria to win | Bulgaria 3 Liechtenstein 1 | 2.30 | WON |
Denmark to win | Denmark 3 Switzerland 2 | 1.90 | WON |
Slovenia to win | Slovenia 2 Montenegro 2 | 2.10 | LOSS |
Hence, the entire accumulator bet loses due to Slovenia's draw against Montenegro.
ACCA Insurance
There are many bookmakers that offer
ACCA Insurance on their Sportsbooks.
The cool thing about it is that even if you lose one leg, you can still win.
For example, let's say you place a wager for Germany, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Denmark, and Slovenia to win against their opponents.
All teams except Slovenia won their matches.
In the event that ACCA Insurance is available and you opt-in and place an ACCA bet with the minimum selection number, you will still receive your winnings.
ACCA Insurance is typically offered on football matches, but some bookmakers also offer it on other sports.
Is it worth it to bet on ACCAs?
Accumulator bets are definitely one of the best ways to increase odds when betting rather than stake money on short-odds individual events.
In addition to giving the bettor a much bigger return for smaller stakes, this strategy should always be remembered that the more variables, the harder it is to win an accumulator.
The best way to increase your chances of winning is to do thorough research before selecting the accumulator because its chances of losing are very high.
