About Turkish Cup
The
Turkish Football Cup is an annual football cup tournament held for Turkish professional football clubs.
Held since 1962, the tournament is organized by the Turkish Football Federation.
The first final was played in two matches, home and away. In the final, two capital giants of Turkish football, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, met.
Both meetings ended with the victory of Galatasaray with the same score 2:1.
Since 2000, the final has been played in one match on a neutral field.
Over the history of the competition, many different formats have been tried, including knockout competitions and the original division into groups, and finally, an expanded format was adopted in the 2012-2013 season.
156 teams from five football divisions of the country take part in the tournament.
After five elimination rounds, the group stage is played in a round robin system.
The group winners and runners-up play in the semi-finals and finals.
There is no doubt that Galatasaray is the most successful team in the Turkish Cup.
In 23 times they have reached the final game, they have won 18 titles.
BeÅŸiktaÅŸ ranks second with 10 wins and 6 runner-up finishes.
Trabzonspor is ranked third. It has only one less title than BeÅŸiktaÅŸ.
Sivasspor are the current cup holders, having won the title in the 2021/22 draw for their first title.
