About AFC U-20 Asian Cup

AFC U-20 Asian Cup, formerly AFC Youth Championship and AFC U-19 Championship, is an international football competition for Asian men's under-20 national teams organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). This competition has been taking place since 1959.

From 1959 to 1978, the tournament was held annually; since 1980, it has been held every two years.

For the first time in AFC Youth Championship history, there was a qualification stage in 1980.

Over the course of its existence, the tournament has been played in a variety of formats. It is currently divided into two stages, similar to the other Asian Championship competitions.

There are 16 teams in the final stage and all AFC members are eligible to compete in the qualifying round.
