About Primera Divisió

The Primera Divisió is a tournament among professional football clubs in Andorra, played since 1995.

The league was created under the auspices of the local Andorran Football Federation, which was established in 1994.

The greatest number of league titles belongs to the Santa Coloma club, which has won ten Andorran championships.

League System

Eight clubs in the championship play each other, home and away (although neither team has its own home stadium).

After the first 14 rounds, the top four teams play matches between themselves to determine the champion of Andorra, while the other four determine who should leave the league.

The winner earns a place in the UEFA Champions League preliminary qualifying round. The winner of the Andorran Cup and the silver medalist of the championship receive the right to participate in the first qualifying round of the Conference League.

History

In the 1994/95 season, the first draw of the Andorran football championship took place, the Santa Coloma club became the winner. The next season 1995/96 was the first under the auspices of UEFA.

Encamp became the champion, however, due to the fact that the Andorran Football Federation was admitted to UEFA during the season, Andorran teams were not allowed to compete in European competitions at the end of the tournament.

For the next three years in a row, Principat became the winner of the Primera Divisió. Constel·lació Esportiva won the 1999/00 championship, however, due to numerous financial violations, the team was excluded from the Andorran championship, and then ceased to exist.
